Position Details

The Senior Accountant will partner closely with the CFO and play a key role in bringing an outsourced accounting function in house. As the right hand to the CFO, you will oversee many special projects, including: establishing best practices, streamlining close periods, working with external auditors, assisting with technical accounting research and be an instrumental team player in leading the company through its next phase of growth.

The Senior Accountant will have a broad set of responsibilities and will gain hands on experience, and mentorship from a seasoned CFO. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, a critical thinker with proven technical experience, dependable, organized and have an energetic spirit. An interest and/or previous accounting experience in healthcare is definitely a plus.

The Senior Accountant will be hands-on, humble, team-oriented and results-driven with a superior ability to execute across a variety of accounting activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the month-end close process and ensure the proper and timely recording of financial transactions in the general ledger in accordance with US GAAP and company policies
  • Prepare journal entries and perform monthly and year end close activities for revenue, cost of sales, operating experiences, accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash
  • Prepare and submit monthly balance sheet reconciliations along with the necessary support
  • Review monthly ledger transactions and validate accuracy and consistency
  • Drive the end-to-end revenue accounting process and apply accounting rules to ensure proper revenue recognition for run rate and complex contracts
  • Execute controls designed to ensure revenue and cost recognition is complete, accurate, and in compliance with accounting policies and controls requirements
  • Assist with the preparation of internal income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flow by providing specific standard reports
  • Participate in the financial audit process and gather supporting documentation according to the close calendar
  • Work closely with finance and accounting members to ensure the ledger data usability
  • Assist with the analysis of P&L, and Balance Sheet trending and provide inputs to the revenue walk, close packages, forecasts and outlooks
  • Support statutory and legal entity reporting requirements (including timely filling of state, local and federal taxes)
  • Perform technical accounting research as required
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements across financial reporting, revenue/AR accounting and procurement AP

Candidate Criteria

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or in the process of a CPA is a plus
  • At least 2 years of professional accounting experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm
  • Healthcare industry experience with an understanding of patient-billing is preferred
  • Experience related to general ledger and sub-ledger accounting processes and procedures, including analytics and financial reporting
  • Outstanding communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Must have a strong track record of prioritizing key deliverables with strict deadlines and execute with precision
  • MS Office experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Thrives in a dynamic start-up environment with change and ambiguity
